By now, you’ve probably seen the absolute goddamn shit show I accidentally started on TikTok over the pronunciation of the band name Saosin. Anthony Green himself even got pulled into it. I’m actually hoping this all goes away soon, all the stiches are getting ridiculous. Also, I reallllly do not care how people say the name.
BUT, feel free to hit me up on TikTok or Instagram and tell me how stupid I am.

5 SONGS RELEASED THIS WEEK THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
Against The Current - “Jump”
Against The Current have released their new EP, Fever, a passionate a furious collection of post-hardcore grit mixed with the band’s knack for gorgeous pop melodies. The song “Jump” is my favorite new one off the record, the opening guitar riff has some 2000’s emo energy to it.
Thrice - “Scavengers”
Thrice has announced their 11th studio album Horizons/East and released the first single “Scavengers.” It’s dark and brooding and cool, buuuuut (and I hate to be that guy) but I miss Artist in the Ambulance era Thrice.
Our Last Night - “Clouds”
The cover song kings put their heavy spin on another hip hop smash, this time from rapper NF.
Coheed & Cambria - “Shoulders”
Coheed & Cambria have released their first new song in 3 years, the radio-ready track “Shoulders.” The guitar has some cool phaser effects and the song has a big anthemic chorus. It’s way more accessible for the casual rock listener who is not interested in their comic book stuff.
Hawthorne Heights, Brendan Murphy - “Constant Dread”
One of my favorite bands of all time, Hawthorne Heights announced a new album The Rain Just Follows Me and released the single “Constant Dread” featuring Brendan Murphy from the hardcore band Counterparts.
Frontman JT Woodruff seems like a pretty intense guy, he said “When writing, I tend to dig through memories, both good and bad. In ‘Constant Dread,’ I was searching through one of my favorite tour memories. Warped Tour 2017, in the tour bus village. One of our favorite hardcore bands, Counterparts, was hosting karaoke. As I was standing there, Brendan hit play on ‘Niki FM,’ and then threw me the microphone, and as I was singing my own song to a jury of my peers, I realized that I need to loosen up. This should be fun, not agony. When I thought about that moment, while laying [in] bed in the throes of the terror-filled gaze of the moonlight, I knew we needed to put Brendan in this song. And I’m so glad he said yes because [he] absolutely crushes it.”
If you want to hear all these songs and the rest of this week's best new music, you can find them all on my "New Scene Sunday" playlist.
How the fuck did Kim Kardashian end up in a Fall Out Boy music video?
Back in 2007, Kim K wasn’t the most famous person on the planet like she is today. Back then, she was a socialite that was mostly known for hanging out with Paris Hilton. Just a few months before the launch of Keeping up with the Kardashians which launched her into the absolute highest tier of fame, Fall Out Boy was one of the biggest bands in world and getting ready to make a music video for their track “Thnks fr th Mmrs.”
They reached out to Kim to play a model in the absolutely ridiculous music video and she said “yes.” She was actually a big fan of Fall Out Boy and thought their concept for the video was totally different and fun. “I think music videos kind of all show the same thing. They kind of want a hot girl and cool cars,” said Kardashian.
I mean, the video is still pretty hilarious, the concept is it’s a music video within a music video. The directors are real life monkeys and they’re sleazy AF, groping the cast, calling the band wack and even replacing band members with apes. Kim K shows up halfway through the video as Pete Wentz’s love interest and she is then quickly whisked away by the monkey director which causes Wentz to absolutely lose his mind and destroy the set.
On his new podcast Loud and Sad Radio, Wentz reminisces on the appearance saying “It’s just so interesting when you look back on that moment and you’re like, ‘This is the last moment Fall Out Boy interacted in public with Kim Kardashian where we had the same amount of fame as her.’ It’s funny when you look back at this stuff. Thanks for the memories, Kim.”
Like I said, the video is nuts, so let’s pause and watch it together
BANDS THAT DON’T SUCK AND WILL PROBABLY BLOW UP
Each week, I pick one on-the-rise, emerging artist that I think we should all keep an eye on, so that one day we can say "hey, I knew about them before they blew up."
Saving Vice
This week's pick is the metalcore band Saving Vice. I actually featured them on my TikTok a few months ago, but they just dropped a new song called “Phantom Pain” that I really love, so I thought it would be fun to bring them on the show this week. For fans of Motionless in White and Falling in Reverse.
