5 SONGS RELEASED THIS WEEK THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
Underoath - “Damn Excuses”
Underoath have released “Damn Excuses,” their first new song since the 2018 album Erase Me. The band is also working on a whole new album, but there’s no details on that yet, but if this single is any indication, it looks like they’re headed back into the classic Underoath sound.
Lil Aaron - “I Just Remembered I Hate You”
Nu-Punk artist Lil Aaron dropped a brand new EP called Year of the Dog, the featured single “ I Just Remembered I Hate You” has some great 2000’s teen movie vibes, like American Hi-Fi meets MGK.
Memphis May Fire - “Death Inside”
Metalcore heavyweights Memphis May Fire released “Death Inside.” They say the song is “a new flavour of Memphis May Fire. It’s all about fear of death and the choice to either let it consume you or live life to the fullest.”
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! - “Complete You”
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! have debuted a new track called “Complete You” from their fourth album, Gone Are the Good Days, coming out on July 30th. The track features AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer.
WILLOW, Avril Lavigne, Travis Barker - “G R O W”
WILLOW’s highly-anticipated, collab-packed new album Lately I Feel EVERYTHING is finally out. It’s mostly an adrenaline filled nu-punk album with hints of alt pop, but I found myself snoozin on some of the slower songs. The key tracks for me are the lead single “Transparent soul” and the Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker collab “G R O W.”
How did a fuck up help create this iconic Hawthorne Heights music video?
Not up for debate, “Ohio Is For Lovers” is one of the biggest songs of the band’s career off their debut album The Silence in Black and White and is pretty much considered the emo kid anthem. The music video all takes place in a creepy ass old building while a little girl is shown aging rapidly and a spider is spinning its web. Some serious 2000’s emo shit here.
This was the band’s first experience shooting a music video and they said they felt super awkward and nervous just learning how to mime and lip sync the track. The nerves must have caught up with the director as well because he forgot to bring a mic stand. Out of necessity, they hung the microphone from the rafters and it ended up creating an iconic shot for the video with vocalist JT grabbing it, screaming and whipping it around. The band said for years people would come up to them and tell them how cool the mic scenes are and they’re just like “ yea, it was an accident.”
Let’s watch it again and appreciate it
BANDS THAT DON’T SUCK AND WILL PROBABLY BLOW UP
Each week, I pick one on-the-rise, emerging artist that I think we should all keep an eye on, so that one day we can say "hey, I knew about them before they blew up."
This week's pick is the pop punk/emo band As Time Fades. They’re actually from my hometown Cleveland and they just dropped a brand new EP mixed and mastered by Seb Barlow from Neck Deep. There’s definitely some Neck Deep influences along with State Champs and a hint of Mayday Parade.
Hear their latest single “Invisible” on my “HOMETOWN” playlist.
