Episode 20: Mod Sun, Travis Barker, Call Me Karizma, remy
+Dave Grohl and GnRget the plug pulled on them
Oh man, the season already feels like it’s changing and I’m starting to crave pumpkin fucking everything. I gotta get to work updating my FALLTERNATIVE playlist. Hit me with any recommendations you think I need to add.
Here’s a fun piece of music news this week, Guns n Roses and Dave Grohl had a little mishap at a concert recently.
This week on The Distorted 10 Podcast
We have not one, but two guest curators this week. Call Me Karizma, a nu-punk artist who has toured with Mod Sun and Blackbear and signed to the new Thriller Records. We also will have remy, an indie/alt artist signed to Hopeless Records. They’re both gonna pick out some tunes for us and talk about them.
Speaking of Mod Sun, we’ll hear his new single with Travis Barker + four more tracks released this week that you might have missed.
And a band that doesn't suck and will probably blow up, Smoking Martha
5 NEW SONGS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
1. New Found Glory - “The Devil Has Many Faces”
New Found Glory has dropped the deluxe version of their latest album Forever + Ever x Infinity called Forever + Ever x Infinity...And Beyond! It’s available on vinyl, features a comic created by the band, some exclusive photos and 6 brand new songs. I suggest checking out the new track “The Devil Has Many Faces.”
2. Badflower - “Johnny Wants To Fight”
Badflower dropped a grungy new track called “Johnny Wants To Fight” that tells a story of sleeping with his, I’m guessing, fictional friend Johnny’s girlfriend and Johnny wanting to kick his ass. I’d really like to know if this is a true story, ha. "Johnny Wants to Fight" will be on the band's upcoming new album, This Is How the World Ends, out Sept. 24 via Big Machine
3. As It Is - “ILY, HOW ARE YOU?” & “IDC, I CAN'T TAKE IT.”
We actually have a two for one with this, emo/pop punks As It Is dropped two new singles this week “ILY, HOW ARE YOU?” and “IDC, I CAN'T TAKE IT.” “'ILY, HOW ARE YOU?” is a ‘check in’ anthem. It’s for everybody waking up and going through your day telling everybody you’re great, when you’re not. It’s still okay not to be okay, so check in on your friends. “'IDC, I CAN'T TAKE IT” is a “fuck you” party anthem. It’s for everybody who goes out of their way to care, but not have it reciprocated.
4. Hawthorne Heights - “Thunder in our Hearts”
Hawthorne Heights released another single from their upcoming album “The Rain Just Follows Me.” The song “Thunder in our Hearts” is about panic attacks that vocalist JT developed during the recording sessions for the album. He said he would just like awake until 4am, feeling like his heart was gonna explode and then wake up at 7 to go record. These lyrics came to him during one of those scary nights. JT was recently a guest on the podcast, so be sure to check that out.
5. Mod Sun, Travis Barker - “Down”
Mod Sun and Travis Barker are together again! They dropped the new single “Down” and it’s super catchy and definitely nails that nu-punk sound. This comes just after Mod and MGK announced they’re working on a movie called “Good Mourning with a U” which they will star in along with Megan Fox, Pete Davidson and Whitney Cummings.
There’s a ton of other great releases I coudn’t fit in here like stuff from Kellin Quinn & DEWAYNE, so if you want to hear all of this week's best new music, you can find it all on my "New Scene Sunday" playlist.
